All Stories Have Plots That Thicken Like Gravy

"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power."

November has flown by! We have finished month 4 of the apprenticeship. Now, more than ever, have I felt the pressure of time doing campus ministry. We are close to the end of the semester. Reflecting back, the urgency to push, grow, and pursue Christ has been a driving factor this month. Campus ministry is ephemeral. There is only so much time with these students.

However, there is an abundance of thanksgiving. God is faithful and He proves Himself to be working over and over. He has been so good to me and so good to our students.

TNT

This month, we went over the book of Ephesians during our sermon times. We printed off the sections we would read that day and form a large circle and take turns reading verses. We read scripture together as the original audience would have heard the letter. Our students LOVED this experience. Reading and discussing scripture together is something that our students enjoyed. I am so thankful God is sowing the seeds for students to be hungry for His word. I was also blessed to have Sirak on the worship team again!

Worship

I just want to give a quick shout to the students that have helped with worship. It truly is a community effort. From helping me unload/load the equipment, to setting up, practicing then leading, it takes people and time. Students have been extremely helpful and have served well.

Pizza Theology

Every semester we host Pizza Theology. For a day, we dive deep into a topic as a community with a pizza dinner in between the sessions. This semester, we had Dr. Mary Poplin speak about secularism. She defined secularism and pointed out how it has affected our worldview. This pizza theo literally rocked my world. I learned to just see secularism in the day to day interactions and conversations. Also, Dr. Poplin was such a wonderful guest speaker!

This is Dr. Mary Poplin. She encouraged people to participate for a chance to win cheetos!

Thanksgiving Core

We had a combined core with the Wednesday Women's core. We had a thanksgiving lunch. This was such an encouraging and life-giving core. We spent hours eating and hanging out. It was fun engaging with the women's core. We do not usually combine cores so this was such a neat treat.

Campus Connect

We have been trying different things to reach new students. There was a week we did High Fives and Good Vibes. The goal was to high five people on campus during a specific time and hang out encouragements. This was pretty neat because some students were not expecting high fives/friendly faces. I met people that know about the ministry. I think that we have tried different things and students are responding and know that a campus ministry exists.

Throughout the week, I created videos to encourage our students to participate.
Some of these videos and pictures were a little strange.

Prayer  Requests

As we continue doing campus ministry together, I ask that you join me in prayer.
  • Pray for our students so that they may be successful during finals season.
  • Pray so that we may continue to build community over the break.
  • Please pray so that Richland may allocate funds toward the ministry so that the price of Winter Camp may be lowered for our students.
  • Please begin praying so that our students may be able to go to Winter Camp in January.

Thank you so much for supporting me! You help me do God's work on campus. I am beyond blessed to have you support me. Thank you so much!  I leave you with this encouragement from Ephesians.

Ephesians 5:1-2
"Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children, and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God."

Blessings,
Josh
