All Good Stories Start with a Beginning

The Apprenticeship has begun!

Hello friends! The apprenticeship has finally started. I am so thankful for your support. I would not be here without your support. It still feels surreal that I get to do campus ministry full-time this year. I think my story at Richland is a testament to God’s work.

I started out at Richland College back in 2014, before transferring to UTD the year after. I did not like being at Richland and I did not invest time on that campus. I saw the FOCUS team on campus and I would avoid them. At UTD, God used FOCUS to confront some of my assumptions and misconceptions about living life as a disciple of Jesus. Last year I served as a student leader and I realized that God was transforming my heart to care for a school that I did not cared for years ago.

This is the Richland Leader Team from the 2018-2019 school year.
The guys on this team are some of my closest friends.

Staff Retreat

Every year, the staff goes on retreat to build relationships and to plan for the year. We read a book together. It was called “In the Name of Jesus” by Henri Nouwen. I felt challenged to look at my intentions and to seek God in every situation I encounter. I was challenged to grow in quality of devotional time with God. It was a great weekend at Susan’s Cabin! (Below is a short video from the inside of our cabin).

This is the Dallas Team. Laurence and Amber work at TWU Dallas
and SMU. Kurt helps out at SMU.

This year, I get to work with Sandra and Sirak. They have been
really good friends to me and I am excited to work with them
this year.

This is Sirak. He will be my supervisor this year.
This will be the third year I get to do ministry with him.

Classes

I have started my Old Testament Foundation classes. I’ve read about 1/3 of the Old Testament these past 2 weeks. I have encountered God reading through Gen-Kings and Isaiah. I have found myself feeling thankful and emotional reading because God is so good. The class has been good for me and is teaching me to ask better questions when thinking about scripture critically.

Looking Ahead

I encourage you guys to see what God is doing and join Him! He is so great and is working on our college campuses.

  • Please pray for our incoming freshman and commuters so they can find community on campus and be willing to be challenged in their relationships with Jesus.
  • Please pray for our returning students so they may grow in their relationship with Jesus.
  • Please pray for our leader team so that they may have the courage to reach out to new students. Please pray for empowerment so that they may be able to fill out the Great Commission out on campus
  • Pray for the students I will be meeting with. Pray for open hearts and pray so that I may love them and serve them well this year.
  • Please pray for me as I am not fully fundraised. I am still working on fundraising. I am looking for a couple of more people to support me with $100 a month.

Your brother in Christ,

Josh
